BACKGROUND
At a March 2001 Executive Council meeting, concerns were raised about the observed "spike" in the number of applications received by each CSU campus across the system. The question that arose was: to what extent has CSUMentor (i.e., the electronic application process) promoted the practice to apply to more than one CSU campus among prospective CSU freshmen? To address that issue, the Analytic Studies Division at the CSU Chancellor's Office developed a reporting structure that generates campus-specific counts on the number of first-time freshman applications received by only one campus, by two campuses, by three campuses, and so forth.
For the past three years, the data collected by this reporting structure have been disseminated back to the campuses via five tables on campus and systemwide first-time freshmen multiple applications and yield for previous fall terms and an end of February data snapshot of the upcoming fall term. Enrollment reporting officers, directors of Institutional Research, and admission officers receive the yearly report in April. These tables have provided the campuses with the number and percentage of first-time freshman applicants who applied to one CSU campus, as well as, the number and percentage of those applicants who applied to two or more CSU campuses. In addition, tables listing enrollment/application yield rates for previous fall terms and upcoming fall term updates for applications received have been especially useful for the development of campuses' enrollment plans.
This website represents an expansion of the multiple applications reporting structure. So now campuses also can determine the CSU enrollment outcomes for all of their fall applicants. That is, campuses can identify how many of their new freshmen filed only one CSU application, filed two CSU applications, or filed three or more CSU applications; and they can identify how many of the applicants matriculated to another CSU. Moreover, they can identify the exact CSU destination for dual applicants that matriculated to another campus.
