California High School Reports of
Mathematics Proficiency (ELM)
and English Proficiency (EPT)
by County, Fall 2005

If at least five students from a California high school enrolled at the California State University as regularly-admitted first-time freshmen in fall 2005, then there is a high school report that includes the following: 1) the total number of freshmen enrolled at the CSU, 2) the percentage of freshmen who were exempt from ELM and EPT testing, 3) the percentage of freshmen that demonstrated competency in English and mathematics by scoring at or above the ELM or EPT cut-off points, and 4) the percentage not proficient at entry. Also posted are frequency distributions for the following: 5) the method by which freshmen attained exempt status, 6) the range of ELM and EPT scores, and 7) the range of EPT subtest scores. Lastly, mean scores are posted for ELM and EPT, plus the EPT subtests. In each instance, comparable figures are posted for all new CSU students from California schools or for all new CSU students from the same county.
